The Solomon High School Chapter of the National Honor Society

About the Society

Welcome to the NHS Webpage!  The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since their beginnings in 1921.

About Solomon’s Chapter

Throughout the year, members of our chapter serve as role models for other students. In addition to the strong academic records which established our eligibility for membership, our chapter members are leaders in many student organizations and we serve our school and community through many activities.  We are proud of our accomplishments at SHS and within the surrounding community.

Selection Process

  • Candidates must have a 3.4 G.P.A. at the end of their 3rd semester of high school.
  • Students must complete the application packet by the early spring deadline
  • Students must demonstrate excellence in the following areas: Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character.  Candidates will be judged on these four criteria by a panel of SHS faculty members using a rubric based on the candidates application packet.
  • Candidates voted in the chapter by the faculty panel will notified by letter.
  • Newly elected members will be inducted into the chapter at the induction ceremony in the spring.
  • NHS members are expected to maintain a 3.4 GPA and be active in the chapter.  Member status will be reviewed each year.
