Senior Craig W. signed a national letter of intent on Wednesday, February 6 to enroll at Highland Community College and become a two-sport athlete in football and track. Craig is the third Gorilla to sign with Highland in recent years. "Jake (Cook, 2011 alumnus) talked to the coach for me about it," Craig explained. The third game into the 2012 season was when Craig started getting communication from Highland football coach Ryan Held about playing for the Scotties.
Craig chose Highland "mainly because of the cost. I was recruited for football originally, but I asked about track and they agreed for me to be a two-sport athlete." Craig believes he will be on the offensive side of the ball mainly, but he has a chance for defense as well. As for track, he will be throwing the shot put, where he has seen success at the state level in the years past. "I may do indoor track, but mainly outdoor. They want me to start doing track about two weeks after football season is over," Craig said. The Scotties' track team is coached by Chad Clevenger.
Academically, Craig will be studying Industrial Welding, a two-year program offered at HCC. He would consider continuing his education if another scholarship is offered to a four-year school.
