Parents please read the letter from Dickinson County Health Officials sent to your email. Per the Dickinson County Health Department request, all individuals entering the facility will be required to wear a mask. Once social distancing of 6 feet can be maintained the mask may be removed. Senior government students traveled to the capitol building today. They took a historical tour. They were supposed to sit in on a session in the Senate, but there wasn't any room, so we hopped in on the dome tour before lunch. We wrapped up the day by visiting Senator Hardy and asking pre-prepared questions. A successful day!

Our second graders have been studying Kansas in the past and present. We compared the lives of the Native Americans, the first pioneers, and what our families live like today on the plains of Kansas. After learning our background information students were then put into teams to create a 3-D model of life for each group. Our models will be on display in the elementary library until January 31. Everyone is welcome to come and see our models.

We studied the country Sweden yesterday & learned that St. Lucia Day falls on December 13th. Experiences are the best way to learn, so we decided to show them this tradition in our classroom. The Second graders are learning about local government. Mayor McMillen came in today to share with the students what the city council and mayor do for Solomon. The students asked questions and shared some ideas on where they thought crosswalks could go to keep students and all residents safe when crossing streets. Great job to the SMS VB/FB Teams tonight at Herington. With a 34-12 W, SMS FB finished the year undefeated for the first time since 2004, with it’s first WSLeague Title since joining in 2010. We had so much fun with our Little Gorilla Cheerleaders this morning, and we look forward to cheering with you at the game on Friday night. Please wear your Little Gorilla t-shirt and school/weather appropriate clothing. Be there by 6:45 pm to participate in welcoming the football team to the field. Preschool- 2 will cheer for the first quarter and 3-6 will cheer for the 2nd quarter and halftime during Little Gorilla Football. We will have your pom poms and bow at the game. Our high school choir went to KWU yesterday for the KMEA Honor Choir music learning day. We are currently working on audition music and half of the choir will be auditioning on November 2nd! Solomon hasn't had anyone make district honor choir in at least 5 years and we're hoping this is our year! Wish them luck!

This “Fun Friday” in First Grade we finished up our apple unit! The day consisted of making homemade applesauce, writing recipes, apple tree painting & so much more. We ran out of time, so Monday the kids will have apple tasting (5-6 different apple flavors) for snack! We had a great time & the kids sure loved it! 🍎🌳
