Solomon schools have been serving Solomon, KS and surrounding communities for 143 years! Our slogan for the 2026-27 school year is Heart - Hustle - History. We certainly showcase each of these elements both in the school walls and in the community. Gorillas show heart, by putting their community first through community clean-up efforts, collecting donations, including Solomon residents in activities and art projects, and so much more. Gorillas show hustle in their vigor to challenge themselves both in the classroom and on the turf or court. These are part of our history. This is Gorilla Nation, and we are excited to continue to honor the excellence of our history through the Gorilla Hall of Fame.
Each year, we induct members of our community into the Gorilla Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame was created in the fall of 2021 to recognize the rich history of excellence in academics, activities, athletics, and stewardship in our wonderful community. Each nominee receives a plaque in their honor which is displayed in the school for all Gorillas current, past, and future to remind them of what it means to be a part of the Gorilla Family. For the 2026 HOF Class, we are inducting the 1981 Women’s 2A State Track Champions and teacher & coach, Ken Miller.

The team scored 42 Points for Class 2A during the State meet. They placed in several events:
1ST Place 4x200 Meter Relay - Teresa L, Donna T, April L, and Jeanne M
2ND Place 4x100 Meter Relay
2ND Place 400 Meter Dash - Jeanne Martin
3RD Place 200 Meter Dash - Jeanne Martin
1ST Place 4x400 Meter Dash (New State Record) - Donna T, Pam T, April L, and Jeanne M
The original 4x400 meter dash team was supposed to include Holli L, but she unfortunately suffered an injury right before the State meet that prevented her from competing. Pam T was able to step in and help the team secure 1st place at state.
Kenny Miller
Ken Miller graduated from Southwestern University in Winfield, Kansas and came to Solomon in 1966 as the Industrial Arts teacher and Football coach.
He was head Football coach for 24 years and helped coach the boys basketball and girls basketball teams, boys track and field and taught drivers education.
Coach Miller led a successful coaching career which resulted in two notable achievements. First, under his leadership, the boys Football team of 1970 & 1971 were undefeated for two consecutive seasons. Second, he coached the 1974 Boys Track team to a Class AA State runner-up finish.
In 1980 he became head girls basketball coach until his retirement in 1988.
Ken enjoyed 32 years of retirement before he passed away in 2020 at the age of 94.
