Meet Marvis Bruckner, an amazing new teacher at Solomon Elementary School.
Bruckner grew up in a rural area like Solomon.
“I grew up in Nebraska and my family were farmers,” said Bruckner. “I went to a small school in a town of 3,000 people.”
Growing up she did some activities in school and on the farm.
“I helped on the farm, but I did participate in sports at school,” said Bruckner.
Those activities from when she was younger have changed to some interesting outdoor ones now.
“Some of my hobbies include many outdoor activities such as spending time with my family, camping, kayaking, scuba diving, and I especially love traveling to new places,” said Bruckner.
Instead of staying in Nebraska, she moved to Salina, Kansas.
“I have lived in Salina for about 30 years and consider it home,” said Bruckner.
Salina is also where she went to college.
“I graduated from Wesleyan with an education degree and then continued and got my special education degree,” said Bruckner.
After getting her special education degree, she began teaching different subjects.
“I have taught SPED K-6th grades, 2nd grade, and have taught risk/title reading,” stated Bruckner.
Getting to teach people each year continues to show Bruckner why she became a teacher.
“This is my seventeenth year of teaching and I can’t imagine doing anything else,” said Bruckner.
Seventeen years teaching has led to many different opportunities. Now she is here at Solomon and she is happy to be here.
“I absolutely love teaching at Solomon,” started Bruckner. “Everyone here has been so helpful and friendly and the students are the most compassionate kids I have ever had. I am so very fortunate to work at such an extraordinary school.”
Many people are also happy that Bruckner is here. This included her coworker, Sydney Cantin.
“Ms. Bruckner is truly a blessing to work with,” said Cantin. “She welcomes all in her classroom and has created such a kind and caring environment for her students where they can grow not only their minds, but as people too. Every morning she walks in with excitement to teach her students something new and to brave a new adventure. Whether she is teaching her students different subtraction strategies, or helping them learn about R controlled vowels she ensures that every lesson is educational and fun. Not only is she an incredible teacher, but she is such a supportive friend. I truly enjoy each and every one of our collaborations and conversations. She is a kind soul that spreads kindness to all around her.”
