gorilla pride

It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas!  We witnessed it this year with a snow day on November 26th!  The last day of school is December 20th of the first semester, so we are a little early on the snow!

This semester has flown by at USD 393.  Thanks to a great staff, great students, and a very supportive community this year has been tremendous.  Over the past few weeks I have seen the outpouring of support a small community provides for the school. First, our fall sports season was a huge success!  Our volleyball team won Regionals and advanced to a tough Centralia Sub-State, but through the course of the year they won 3 tournaments and represented Solomon with great pride!  Then over Thanksgiving weekend we had the pleasure to witness a community come together, pack the stands, and cheer on our State Runner-up football team. To see alumni, community members, the band, young Gorillas, experienced Gorillas, all Gorillas in the stands was a sight to remember for years to come!  The joy and pride our community had for our town and our boys was great to see. What made it even better was that Gorilla pride has continued as it always does this time of year.

Another great outpouring come from with the fever of the season!  Operation Gorilla Family was started years ago and continues to be an asset for our town during the Christmas Season.  Operation Gorilla Family reaches out to provide support through food, gifts, clothing, and other daily needs for families so they can have a good Christmas.  Last year it served 25 families and 42 students, truly amazing! What never fails is the support a community like Solomon has for a project like this. This project has touched many people who are struggling, who just need a little help in a time when everyone is trying to provide the best they can for their families.  It is an event that makes us #GorillaProud. We have had over $1400 in donations to help with the project this year, we thank-you! As well we have an angel tree that will go up at the Cowboy Weigh to help our local Angels! So many people calling to extend a helping hand. As they say, “it takes a village to raise a child”, this is very true.  As a community helping others locally and discretely, will make a significant impact in our family’s Christmas and break.

As we finish another successful semester I want to extend THANKS!   Our teachers, staff, parents, and patrons have done so much this year to make the school year a success.  A goal of ours this was getting our community involved in the school and so far it has been a success. Listed are opportunities where our community came out or can continue to be involved in the school.

As you can see there are so many ways to become involved in our school.  All the support you give our teachers and students help to create the success we see at USD 393.  Thanks for being a part of our “village” our Gorilla Village with #GorillaPride in abundance. Have a very blessed Christmas season and finish to 2018.  School is out December 20th at 3:30pm and classes resume Jan. 3, 2019! Finish Strong!
