Great kickoff to Gorilla Robotics season today. Very grateful to Wichita State University for hosting such a great opportunity. This years event is going to have some interesting challenges for our students.

Our 3rd graders are our “Array” of Sunshine!! We started learning about multiplication and repeated addition by using arrays!

Second grade has had a great week on top of creating matshmallow dinosaurs, and learning how to work as a team, they also got to meet the construction crew and they made cards to thank them for working so hard.

Me. Romeiser’s kindergarteners practiced using scissors, glue, & crayons to make monster puppets. They used them to practice their speaking and listening skills. #gorillapride

Happy “Fun Friday,” from First Grade! Todays activity was a big hit with the kids! We had a great time making some colorful spinners. 🌀
P.S- watch out parents, they think they might be able to hypnotize you with these! 😵💫😉

Help me welcome our new 7th and 8th grade math teacher, Jon Gwin. Mr. Gwin graduated from Marymount College with a degree in Business Adm. and worked as the business manager for an accounting firm in Salina for 2 years. He didn't enjoy the job because it was so repetitious, so he went back to college (Bethany) and completed his teaching block and received his teaching certificate. Mr. Gwin has 3 adult children, ages 30, 27 and 27. He thoroughly enjoyed going to their sporting activities during HS and supporting them in their academic endeavors. He has taught math in Garden City (2 years), USD 305 (South HS) for 3 years, and approximately 8 years at St. Francis Ministries school and also was an administrator for the school for 15 years. Last year, he taught math at Junction City HD Karns Innovations Academy. He is looking forward to having a great year with your children and hope they develop a hunger for life long learning. Go Gorillas!

Please join us in welcoming a new addition to our staff, Arlene Berven. Mrs. Berven will serve as our Title I instructor with an emphasis on reading. She is originally from Junction City, but has lived in Abilene for the past 30 years. Her husband and her have two grown children and three grandchildren. She earned my bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Emporia State University in 1991 and her master’s degree in reading in 2013. This is her 30th year of teaching.

Help me to welcome Mrs. Kayla Peck. Though she is new here at Solomon, this is her 8th year in education. She looks forward to creating a classroom culture and rapport that will enable and motivate students to get the most out of her classes. She will teach 9th grade English, World History, and College Public Speaking. She is also the assistant junior high volleyball coach and head forensics coach.
A little more about her, she has five kids, five rabbits, and two dogs. Some of her favorite hobbies are crocheting, drawing, and writing. Her favorite color is green and when the weather is nice, she loves to go hiking.
Mrs. Peck is excited for this school year! The goal for her students by the end of the year is to gain knowledge and strength in themselves. Go Gorillas!

Algebra 2 students learned that functions are like a machine with something coming in - and then a new thing coming out. They created their own function machines to explain this topic!
