Colin Price Bass

Solomon High School junior Colin Price is a jack of all trades when it comes to music. He is known for rocking the bass guitar, the electric strings vibrating with the sound of pure talent, but he is also adept with several other instruments.

“I play 3 instruments, bass [guitar] being my main, flute being my second, and trombone being my third,” Price said. “I used to be able to play violin but I'm not good at it, I could play a few more but I'm not very good at them.”

His talent is not out of nowhere though. Musical talent runs deep in the Price family’s roots.

“My dad has been a musician, so music has always been in my life,” he said.

Not only is his father musically inclined but so are his sister, grandmother, and cousins.

Music was drilled into his head as a young boy.

“Violin, [was the first he learned] I wanted to learn an instrument, but I have “amnesia” so I don't remember [when he first started playing],”  said Price after giggling.

Colin taught himself to shred on the bass but he soon will be taking the challenge of learning acoustic guitar.

“Next year I'll take high school band, Jazz band, and guitar class for extra class time,” said Price.

Price prided himself on the long list of genres of music he listens to. He requested that I emphasize that his favorite type is, “Metal the the best–I like psychedelic rock. I like all kinds EXCEPT FOR COUNTRY,” he said after cracking up.

Colin plans to take his bass guitar skills to the next level.

“I am going to college for music, majoring in performance jazz bass,” said Price with pride gleaming in his eyes. I plan on being a session bassist, a session bassist is anyone who needs a bass for a project then they can call me and I'll do it. I could play or make up a bass line.”
